King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Project (Masam) dismantled 320 anti-tank mines and 380 unexploded ordnance planted by the Houthi militia during the second week of July 2022. As of now, 350,421 mines have been dismantled as part of the project. According to a local NGO, over 900 civilians have been killed by mines planted by Iranian-backed Houthis in southwestern Yemen since 2015.

Masam Project of KSrelief dismantles 700 mines in YemenYemeni Mine Observatory reported that 942 civilians have died from mines planted by Houthi militias in Taiz province over the past six years, including 223 children and 217 women. There were also 2,321 civilians injured by the mines, including 406 children and 365 women, according to the statement. Mine clearance efforts are being intensified in regions liberated by government forces.

More than 8,000 mine victims are estimated to have been killed in Yemen by human rights groups. Most of the victims are women and children. Almost a million mines have been planted in areas controlled by the Houthis, according to the Yemeni government. Houthi rebels aligned with Iran have been battling for control of much of Yemen since 2014, when they captured the capital, Sanaa, from the Yemeni government.

    Healthcare shares strengthen market gains
Healthcare stocks provided another source of support during Wednesday’s session as several pharmaceutical shares recorded large gains. Moderna shares surged 177%, while Merck advanced 12.6% after the companies announced positive results from a Phase 3 melanoma trial. The INTerpath-001 study tested personalized mRNA therapy intismeran autogene with Keytruda following surgical removal of high-risk melanoma. The combination met its primary endpoint for recurrence-free survival. It also met a key secondary endpoint measuring survival without distant cancer spread.
The healthcare rally helped offset mixed trading elsewhere, particularly across parts of the technology sector. Consumer-related shares also contributed after several major companies released quarterly results during the session. Estée Lauder climbed more than 16% following its earnings report, adding to gains among consumer stocks. Target and Lowe’s also advanced after reporting their latest financial results. Smaller companies generally outperformed large-cap indexes, with the Russell 2000 gaining about 0.5% as the broader market recovered.
